Application procedure

We take great care in the process of application and enrolment to our trainings. To enable us to ascertain your eligibility, we ask you to email us a written application presenting your personal details, background and yoga experience using the table below as a guideline. We also need from you:

1 photo of yourself
2 letters of reference

Our course is strictly limited to a maximum of 20 students. All applications will be responded to within 7 working days and will be considered in order of receipt, as will a wait list at the point the course places all appear allocated.

Our courses generally fill up quickly, so we encourage you to apply early to secure your place.

Please prepare your written application by providing us with the following information, as applicable:

Date of birth
Full contact details including email address and social network site (eg Facebook) address.
Education/further education and training, listing all qualifications achieved
Have you ever studied human anatomy and physiology?
Have you ever studied classical yogic texts?

(min 2 years of consistent practice)
How long have you been studying and where? What lead you to yoga?
How many classes a week do you attend?
Describe your current self-practice. Do you have a meditation practice?
What styles have you practiced?
Do you have a favourite style, and if so, explain why?

Give details, if relevant, of any weekend workshops you have attended.
Are you currently teaching yoga, or have you ever taught? If yes, please give details.
State why you would like to become a yoga teacher, and what special qualities you think a good yoga teacher requires.
Why do you think you would make a good teacher?
Why do you choose to undertake training with The Yoga Academy?
Please describe your level of physical fitness and clearly inform The Yoga Academy of any physical conditions, disabilities, injuries or surgeries.
Do you have any other medical conditions that we should know about (diabetes, high blood pressure etc.)?
Please also inform us if you are currently taking any medication for physical or psychiatric conditions of any nature or if you are under care or observation for any such conditions.
Two letters of reference. Your referees should have a good knowledge of your practice and be able to comment on your standard or give an assessment of your suitability for the course with a brief character reference.
First referee: Yoga teacher (compulsory unless you are a regular student of Simon Low or any of the Yoga Academy faculty teachers).
Second referee: May be selected from the following sources:
recent college or course tutor,
recent or current employer,
second yoga teacher with whom you have practiced regularly.
A photograph of yourself.

Please note: If you are currently already enrolled on the The Yoga Academy 500-hour upgrade course, and attending this training, you do not need to fill out this application form. Unless you are currently a regular student of a Yoga Academy tutor you may be contacted by Simon Low or a faculty teacher and may be requested to attend an interview or class with a Yoga Academy tutor prior to acceptance on this course. An informative completed questionnaire will most likely make an interview unnecessary.

... “But what you love to see are faces

that do work and feel thirst.

You love most of all those who need you

as they need a crowbar or a hoe.

You have not grown old, and it is not too late

to dive into your increasing depths

where life calmly gives out its own secret”

Rainer Maria Rilke
